Associate
Exempt (full time, salaried)
Associates work alongside other real estate attorneys and planners to assist owners, developers, and investors with all facets of land use and zoning, development and operation of residential, commercial, and large-scale mixed-use projects.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provide legal counsel and guidance on land use, zoning, and real estate matters.
- Conduct research, analyze statutes, ordinances, and regulations related to land use and zoning.
- Draft and review legal documents, including land use applications, zoning permits, and agreements.
- Represent clients in hearings, negotiations, and meetings with local government entities and regulatory agencies.
- Collaborate with senior attorneys and team members on complex land use and zoning cases.
- Assist in advising clients on environmental regulations, compliance, and permitting issues.
Skills & Experience:
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment for multiple supervisors
- Excellent written and verbal, communication and proofreading skills and strong attention to detail
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in land use, zoning, or real estate law at a reputable law firm or relevant legal setting
- Strong understanding of local and state land use regulations, zoning codes, and real estate development processes
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
- Proven ability to work independently, manage caseloads effectively, and meet deadlines
- Experience with public speaking, negotiation, and client interaction is preferred
